The Wills Creek Muster is pleased to announce that some of the East Coast’s best 18th century educators will be attending to teach and entertain about their fields of expertise.

We are excited to be joined by Brett Walker, Master Bootmaker and a leading historian of colonial shoes. During his time working for Colonial Williamsburg as a bootmaker, Mr. Walker also founded the Capital Cricket Club! In Cumberland, he will be demonstrating the art of colonial boot making and teaching us all about it as he works. We’re pretty sure he would also be happy to talk Cricket with anyone who shares that passion. Mr. Walker will be with us on Saturday only.

We are also delighted to welcome Dean Howarth, who is an expert in “Natural Wonders” as they would have been understood in Colonial times. Think Mr. Wizard in period costume. He will be sharing his knowledge in the form of both display and show. We will marvel at his wonders on both Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12. Watch this space for further information about Mr. Howarth’s special Saturday evening show and walk.

Our Wills Creek Muster colonial market fair is also honored to announce participation from
Jaime Carter, blacksmith from Maryland who is an active member of the Chesapeake Blacksmith Guild. Jaime creates both tools and art. His resume includes volunteering on the USS Constellation in Baltimore Harbor. He will be joining us with his operating forge, and some of his popular work will be on sale.

We also welcome Jacquelyn Rook, an accomplished seamstress who creates 18th century reproduction clothing and accessories, including shirts, shifts, neckstocks, mitts, aprons, caps. In addition to selling her hand-made period clothes (even tailoring them to you on the spot!), Ms. Rook is also bringing a trunk of kid’s clothes for dress up play (talk about a cute photo op!).

It’s going to be a Heritage Day like none before. We still have space for several more presenters for the weekend of September 10-12! If you are interested in participating please email our Muster Coordinator Rachelle Valladares at [email protected]
